English Professors are Mean

This was a quote from Google quotes on my personalized home page thingie:

I am returning this otherwise good typing paper to you because someone has printed gibberish all over it and put your name at the top.

Health Warning on Makeup/Skincare Products

I just got this link from a friend of mine and it allows you to research various types of skincare products and makeup products effects on the environment as well as on the user, and I just found out that some of these products have been known to cause cancer as well as cause birth defects in the people using them, let alone the environmental effects that the product incurs.

Please, check out the products that you use, make sure they're not on the list.

One of the makeup products I use apparently scored a 3.6 (out of 5) which means it has ingredients that have been known to cause health risks in the wearer. Out of the 24 ingredients it contains, 12 ingredients raise health concerns and 1 is in violation, dimethicone, which is a cancer risk.

So please, check out the stuff that you use.

Earned Air Miles

These are quite nifty!

After my trip to the UK, I've earned a nice chunk of air miles through American Airlines. So I'm wondering, should I just use these for next year when I come over again, or (said like Linda Richman from ye ol' Saturday Night Live) maybe I should take a weekend and go someplace this year.

I have very little time off from work left, but enough to swing for when Mr. W comes over for a visit and possibly a Friday or Monday off somewhere along the line. So possibly in the winter, I may want to use those miles and go someplace in the States. Maybe California, hmmmm. I'll have to see what's going on, but I imagine a weekend in real West Coast sun during a nasty East Coast winter would probably do an east coast girl some good.

Daily Mitchism

"See, this CD [his comedy CD] is in stores. The only way I could get my last CD into a store was to take one in there and leave it. 'Sir, you forgot this!' 'No, I did not. That is for sale. Please alphabetize it.' "

Spring!

Well it's completely gorgeous out today in the Haven. Beautiful sunshine, but a little chilly at 50F, but nothing a little hoodie or some walking around can't cure. So I'll be out enjoying it as much as I can. I may even open my windows!! Holy crap!

I <3 NPR

NPR's just been added to my News roster (it's to the left and towards the bottom kind of).

Yes, they are part of the "liberal media" and THANK GOD! I love how they don't take any crap when it comes to the news and it's refreshing to here about things that I probably wouldn't on network news stations.

Plus they have a nifty music portion of the show everyday which is great. I get to broaden my musical horizons just a teensie bit. And that's saying a lot because I'm becoming very rigid in my musical tastes as I get older, I'm turning into my Dad who only listens to one radio station and rebuys albums he had on vinyl on CD. So every little bit of spoon fed exposure helps me to add some more music to my collect.

Hendrix is still the best though! \m/

New Double Decker Airbus

Airbus A380 makes big statement in U.S.

POSTED: 1:29 p.m. EDT, March 19, 2007

NEW YORK (AP) -- The latest jetliner to claim the title of world's biggest passenger aircraft completed its first voyage to the United States on Monday, flying on football field-length wings and a prayer that the American airline industry will want to buy the double-decker jumbo jet.

The four-engine Airbus A380 touched down at Kennedy International Airport about 12:10 p.m. EDT, to the cheers of onlookers gathered to watch the arrival. As the plane taxied, a pilot waved an American flag. Minutes later, a separate A380 arrived in Los Angeles, but it carried no passengers.

Full CNN.com article here.

That's a big ass plane. Hopefully I'll be able to fly in that thing on my next transatlantic flight.

Happy Hour Tonight

Well, it's been a while, but I think it's time to join my Happy Hour crew once again and really get back into the swing of things again.

Tonight, Happy Hour is going to be at the lovely martini bar/restaurant of Fire. It's a great martini bar that features a bunch of differently decorated rooms either in the fire or ice theme. They also have a nicely stacked martini menu, their Cosmo and their espresso martini being my favorites off of the menu.

We'll probably be able to snag some free food as well, maybe some bruschetta and sometimes they put out little pizzas for everyone to try. So the goal is to spend money on booze and mooch off the bar for food!

Friday...Already?!

Yeah, this first week back to the daily grind really flew by, surprisingly. I expected to come back and be my normal bored self again, but I think the trip really was a recharge for me even mentally speaking.

Also, you forget how much time a 9-5 job takes out of your M-F week. I got used to waking up whenever, doing whatever and sleeping whenever when I was on vacation, but now getting back into the daily rhythm of a work week has really cramped on my time. You get up, go to work, get home around 6 or even 7 PM sometimes. Then you have dinner and it's already like 8 or even 9 PM. Plus if you're hanging out with friends, that's essentially your whole night. Then it's off to bed at around midnight-ish.

I mean, I'm not upset or anything, I do like having a rigid schedule at times and I love my job, but I'm still reeling from how fast this week went by. I barely unpacked, if you know what I mean and it's already a week later.

Breakfast of Champions

So we all decided last night to have a superb brunch the next morning (which is today). So as per the New Haven standard, most breakfast/lunch's don't except reservations so it was off to wait like cattle for some grub.

It's always worth it though, I have to admit. Sometimes when you wait in line for a half hour, the food is always worth it, so we decided on Bella Rose Cafe which had at least a half hour wait. So we go off for coffee and have a little walk in the mean time, then make our way back and we seated very shortly.

I had probably THE best Egg's Benedict I've ever had. It was perfectly made, the egg wasn't too runny but just runny enough for my taste. Absolutely great and I totally recommend it.

Painful Guess Slingbacks & Martinis

So last night was spent having girl talk and catching up with some great friends of mine who wanted to dish about my UK expedition. So we decided to meet up at Hot Tomatoes in New Haven for some great martinis and to just have a nice night out that didn't include beer (yes, there are other drinks besides beer.)

This is one of those chainy type bar/restaurants, so the drinks are great but the bartender ladies were big C-words. Essentially, if you were a girl you had a problem getting their attention for a drink, but if you were a guy seated at the bar you couldn't beat them off with a stick if you could. But still, great martinis so it's worth having to wave your arms around as if you're landing a plane.

However, silly me decides to try out my new pair of Guess slingbacks which are gorgeous in every way imaginable. Everything seemed fine while walking over to the bar and even with standing for the entire length of time we were there, but alas...Walking back to the car proved to be quite a chore. So next time I'll wear my "cheaters" (those nifty little Dr. Scholl's pads for the ball of your foot). Sneaky, sneaky, but worth every penny (or pence).

The Great British Meetup...shhhhh

You f*ckers are all insane...that is all.

But anyway, the pre-meetup meetup was awesome. We all landed upon this great used record shop in Croyden called Beanos. They had pretty much anything you could think of at a deep discount, but what shocked me the most is that behind the counter they had a first pressing of Jimi Hendrix's Axis: Bold as Love album which is probably my most favorite album ever. And because it was a first pressing, the price was an insane £300 (about $600), Christ on a cracker that's a lot of paper to spend. It is a first pressing which is very rare to have, indeed, so who knows. Maybe if I win the lottery or something I'll have to give these Brit's a call.

Iain is THE Man

I'm sending a special thanks out to my homeboy (yeah...booooiiiii) in Glasgow that put up with me the loud, American girl for about 5 days. Iain, you are the man and you were so kind to me in showing me around your awesome city. Many thanks to you and you can always give me a ring if you want to venture across the pond yourself.

Drinks will be on me! And you're always welcomed to crash at my little apartment, even if you aren't visiting me, but if you just need a place to stay.

Thanks so much again for being an awesome friend! :-)

London Calling!

Well, I'm finally here. I came in yesterday actually but you know how it goes, I'm not glued to a computer anymore like I was back home where I did all my blogging from work. That's what my computer at work is for anyway...

But yeah, I'm here and was greeted with a broken down train in the tube so yes, it's just like being at home! So we ended up stopping at a restaurant that was just outside where they dumped us out of the tube station and we actually had a great time. It was a nice Italian restaurant, so we shared a bottle of wine, had some great food and then made it back to the station in time to avoid the broken down train. So all in all, totally worth it.

I'll leave you to figure out who the "we" is that I keep referring too.

There's...something on the wing...

Glasgow (well, Glascoo)

So yeah, I've discovered that it can not only rain at any given time over here, but that in the midst of the chaotic weather, you have the most amazing air over here. I want to bottle your air and bring it over with me. Also, it's pronounced "Glas-coooo" not "Glas-cow," but I'm f*cking American so I get a pass this time since I'm buying touristy type merchandise.

So as you can see, I've made it here safe and sound, even though JFK airport nearly detained me for having a water bottle in my pocketbook, but I survived damn it!. I had a great flight and even had a window seat right next to the wing of the 777, so the entire time I just kept thinking of the Twilight Zone episode with William Shatner. "There's...something on the wing...some...THING!"

It's been a crazy couple of days, but I finally was able to grab some time to blog about it a bit. I'll be posting some photos soon, but I think I need to regain my sanity a bit before then.
