German Engineering in Da House

In celebration of my new auto...

(My car is not a VW, but it is technically owned by them, so that link totally counts.)

Some People...eesh...

Someone was asking me for directions to somewhere in Manhattan and I asked him what Avenue it was off of and he says, and I quote, "somewhere in between the Hudson and the East River."

Now, I'm all for jokes and everything, but this guy was serious apparently...

Baby Car Fixed!

Well I got fancy new brakes for my little car along with assurance that the other car I may get can be fixed by these people as well. So even though my wallet is a bit lighter, I didn't get screwed over like I expected too and I kept a really good mechanic for future cars of mine.

It just sucks having to pay for fixes on something that is going to get sold next month, but whatever. It could have been much much worse and I'm glad the brakes went on me rather than someone who would have bought this car from me.

Schmap Photo Inclusion Part Deux!

I got another one of my photos from my UK spree into Schmap, the online travel guide!

Bloggie Update

I'm now linking to Shreena's new bloggie which I think it much cooler than the other one, mostly because I'm listed in the sidebar of that one. :-)

Yes, I'm that easy to please, you should know that already.

Well, this brightened my day. :-)

Baby Car Broken :-(

While driving to work this morning, the brakes on my baby car went. :-(

Thankfully, even though I was brought up in Fairfield Country, my shred of New England came out and I was able to get some brake pedal friction and swerve to the side of the road even though it was flurrying a bit and the roads were wet. So the flashers go on and after relieving some anger and frustration by a good cry, my logic comes back and I place all the necessary calls: call to my boss/coworker to pick me up (since I new he would be around the area this morning), call to AAA to get my car towed to my mechanic and then the final call to my mechanic who is The Man and said, "don't worry, I know what it sounds like and we gotcha."

Of course this comes the day after I sign my loan papers to improve my credit and apply for a bigger loan in the future to get a newer car, but that's just Hobson luck for ya and probably a little Hobson's Choice too.

"Scared Money Don't Make None..."

To anyone on here who is in college or around that age, listen up. Do not live vicariously through your credit card(s) and more importantly, if at any time you are completely strapped for cash and can no longer make your payments, consolidate those debts into something manageable.

I am 25 years old, I make an engineer's salary and yet it took me this long to get a loan for a car, an unsecured loan mind you, not even a proper one. And why is this? Why on an engineer's salary am I forced to get an unsecured loan (for a smaller amount than I need, by the way)? Because the two things I mentioned not to do in the beginning of this post are things that happened to me when I was a wee nipper of 18. And believe me, I'm happy to even get that loan, to be quite honest.

However, as my loan lady informed me, this is a massive step toward salvaging my credit. Even in 6 months to a year I'll be able to hike up at least 2 tiers and then will be able to refinance for an even better loan. So even if you think you've reached bottom with your credit, do not worry. It can be salvageable, believe me. Again, this is probably better suited to someone with a higher income level, but even making entry level income (if it's steady) can afford you a way to salvage yourself in front of the great fake money gods.

The Golden Rule: Do not sign up for every credit card on the planet simply because they send you stuff in the mail or they happen to have tables set up at your university. Just get one manageable card that you use sparingly and always pay off more than the monthly amount due, or just pay off completely.

Nor'easter?

It's not like I had all this faith in weather people to begin with, but now whatever I did have for them is even smaller than before. Maybe all you people in the north got the snow because even at my job, which is "in the woods" as I describe it, only got about 2 slushy inches.

It was rather pretty driving into work today at least. Because we got a coating of rain before the snow, all the snow clung to the trees and made it seem like I was driving into a winter wonderland this morning. :-)

Dearly Departed

My grandmother died over the weekend, Angeline Hobson.

She was an interesting woman and led and equally interesting life and I thank her for lending me some of her characteristics and ways of being. She was a wonderful grandmother and her generosity was endless.

Casino Times

It was great celebrating this year's birth at Foxwoods on the crazy, smoke filled gambling floor. I believe the only other comparison I can bring to the casino floor is to that of Times Square: filled with noise, lights, people too busy to look up from what they are doing and crazy people yelling to themselves. What a night...

It was such a treat for the eyes and ears to walk out to the tables and slots and hear the music of the machines and see all the bright carpets littered with people. I also learned not to wear shoes that have only been tested for a short night out on the town and not to stand in front of a crowded craps table or else the pit boss thinks you are going to steal someone's chips.

I'll talk more about it, but I need coffee ASAP, it is far too early for me right now.
