The Green Fairy

I found this cute illustration of the Green Fairy from an old absinthe ad back in the day.

Possible costume choice for next Halloween...(and yes, I'm a nerd that actually plans ahead that far for Halloween).

I think I've watched Francis Ford Coppola's Dracula too many times because now I'm in this absinthe state of mind all of sudden, so here's some nifty quotes I found about the green liquor which I've had the pleasure of tasting before and have grown quite fond of:

"After the first glass, you see things as you wish they were. After the second, you see things as they are not. Finally you see things as they really are, which is the most horrible thing in the world." - Oscar Wilde

"Let me be mad...mad with madness of Absinthe, the wildest most luxurious madness in the world." - Marie Corelli

I like Apples

Keep buying things with little Apples on them!

$330/month

That's how much it costs for a 25 year old female to buy health insurance. Don't get me wrong, I'm ecstatic that I have health insurance again and I do get comped from my job for most of that, but good god...

Chaos and Christmakkah

No matter how much I plan ahead for either Hanukkah or Christmas, I like to wait until the last minute for "surprise stocking/menorah stuffers," (I'm a gentile, just go with it). So today and tomorrow will be filled with trips to stores and consultations with my random lizard brain to see which cute bundle of happiness goes to who.

I like to work at random when it comes to this stage, for some reason the gifts seem to have a secret meaning that only my unconscious remembers or knows about. So when the person opens their gift it's usually "oh wow, I can't believe you remembered I liked toffee" or "wow, how did you know I liked penguins!"

My old chaos research comes out occasionally and I love when the theorems prove to be correct:

Postulate #1 - There is a governing algorithm or algorithms.
Postulate #2 - The path governed by "the least resistance" usually is the one to go on. It may not seem to be the path of least resistance at the time that you are on it, but if you look at the big picture, it is.
Postulate #3 - Everyone needs to "zoom out" occasionally just to see their point in the greater scheme of things.

(OK not entirely postulates, but just go with it. I didn't get that physics/math degree, I'm just an engineer, so be happy I even remember what a postulate is.)

I know, it's one of those dumb quizzes, but it is good to know, just in case...

Breakfast of Champions

Because my new job does not only engineering work but also contracting, we have a lot of people/companies that like to keep us happy. As such, last week and this week has been filled with cookie trays, cannoli & pastry trays, fruit arrangements and booze galore!

So for breakfast today I'm dining on wonderful cookies soaked in anisette courtesy of Mozzicato de Pasquale of Hartford, CT and kona coffee that I happily brought in from my reserves at home.

New Bloggie

James' blog is getting added to the blog roll. Feel free to stalk and throw tomatoes at him.

Creepy Warning

If I end up stuffed in a box somewhere along the side of the road, please know that it was probably C*** at work who did it, you know, someone who would be described as one of those "quiet ones."

Some of you know about him as I've relayed puzzling stories to you about his weirdness, but I'm just stating this again in case something does happen.

Now, nothing will (I'm exaggerating, obviously), but have you ever had to work with someone that creeps the fcuk out of you? Like, child molester creepy. You know what I'm saying.

"Hey, I have this great Chinese food menu, in my car..."
"Hey guess what? I'll be down by your neck of the woods tonight..."
"Oh, you're leaving now, I should move my car too [and use this time as an excuse to get you away from everyone in the office]. I parked it a couple blocks down so I should move it closer [and end up moving it even further away down the street because there were no other available spaces left on this side of the street]."

Itsy Bitsy Cute Gifts from Dhai

If you need teeny tiny charms that make you and your gift recipient squeal when you reveal them, then look no further.

Try Dhai's Shop over at Etsy

Along with some awesome mix CD's, I got these incredibly cute thingies to cheer up my day:

*squeal!!!*

"Back Up in Your Ass..."

Oh yeah, I found it...

Office Space

I now have a new found appreciation for Office Space. It's on tonight and this is the first time I've seen it since my move from my old job in the summer. Everything was accurate up to a tee, except no one wore those snazzy aviator glasses.

Also, I forgot how much ass the soundtrack does in fact kick.

"Damn it feels good to be a gansta..."

Building 101

You can't build things in a snow storm.

I thought that was a given, but apparently not everyone feels the same way.

Also, if you plan on lying to me or my office about "needing drawings" because "you have guys waiting to build" please make sure that you aren't in the same climate as I am and that there's not a massive snow storm happening while you are calling me.

Christmakkuah

Christmas begins early for me because my new office's Christmas party will be tonight. This one should be interesting because not only is this place very laid back, but one of the contractors likes me and god knows what happens when you give engineers a chance to drink and be social around one another...so we shall see what happens.

Also, LA's latke fest will be on Saturday and those are always awesome. I remember last year was the first time I ever had latkes and it was so cool to actually see them being made. I love seeing how other religions and cultures celebrate, I'm always intrigued how we all celebrate somehow with food, just preparing it differently (polenta vs. grits, pierogi vs. ravioli...)

Mikey's New Blog

My Irish friend finally decided to start posting again and now with a fancy new blog and everything.

And, Mikey, you're getting added to my blogroll as well. :-)

Glasgow Travel Guide

Well, I woke up groggy this morning to a weird email request and after a couple cups of coffee I realized what it was asking me to do. Apparently, a photo from my Glasgow photo set on Flickr has been submitted for use in a Schmap Glasgow Travel Guide. Whoa...

I don't know who did it or if Schmap was perusing Glasgow related photos on Flickr and came across mine, but anyway, thanks! I do hope it gets selected. :-)

Cool New Blog

I found this cool site while searching through my BloggerChicks community blog list.

sfgirlbybay: bohemian modern style from a san francisco girl

It's a really cool showcase of art that the writer finds on her journeys and I always work my way over to this site to see what else she has found. It also features a massively nice blog roll of other design blogs and it's really interesting to go through them all and see where you land.

Very cool site. :-)
