Daily Mitch-ism

"I bought a house, it's a two-bedroom house. But I think it's up to me how many bedrooms there are, don't you? F*ck you, real estate lady, this bedroom has an oven in it. This bedroom has a lot of people sitting around watching TV. This bedroom is over in that guy's house. 'Sir, you've got one of my bedrooms, are you aware? Don't decorate it!'"

Interview Time *faints*

So yeah, I emailed off my resume last night to the company of my dreams and I didn't really expect much of a response since they are a rather large firm. The most I expected back was an email saying that "Thank you, we've received your email and will look at it when we have nothing better to do." You know the drill...

But that did not happen. I checked my email this morning and had a wonderful message sitting there from the Vice President of their New Haven office wanting me to set up an appointment with them IMMEDIATELY. Holy crap! So once I was able to lift up my jaw from the ground I figured it's a good time to get a nice outfit together ASAP.

I really hope I meet their qualifications on this interview, it would be so great for not just my wallet but for broadening my career as well.

First Beach Walk of the Season

So to clear my head from the horrors of work (well, it's not THAT bad, but you know how you feel at the end of the day) I normally go drive over to the beach that's located about half a mile or so from my job and go for a nice walk around. Yesterday was the first time I did this for the season and besides getting accosted by some dudes "hey there...woooo", it was a good time.

I took some pictures because at this time of year the sky is still very pale blue and how it looks contrasted with the very dark blue ocean is sublime. Pictures to follow once I upload them at some point today.

Birthday Time!

Well, one of my friend's turned "an age that we do not mention because I still don't believe that she's that age" age, so we decided to celebrate by having some great lamb and chicken kabob at one of my favorite cafes in New Haven, Mediterranea. We had no hookah this time, since we were in a hurry to get over to a wonderful Chilean and Uruguaian wine tasting a bar right around the corner, Firehouse 12.

Firehouse 12 has this gorgeous interior design of light birch and exposed concrete which I'm a huge fan of, plus they have great, old-fashioned drinks that they specialize in: Manhattan's, Harvey Wallbanger's, you get the idea.

So yeah, all in a good birthday celebration!

UFO Sighting

Yeah, it's the weirdest thing, I'm looking out of my window at work and I see this circular object in the sky. It's very bright and it's hard to look at, so you can't look at it directly. Also it lights up the whole sky, but moves very slowly across the sky. You can't even really tell it's moving really.

Oh wait...it's the SUN!! That's right. OK, call off the federal agents and shut off the cameras. It's OK guys, it's just the sun.

Yeah, that's how cloudy and gloomy it's been this past week in the Northeast. But thankfully the sun is finally strong enough to poke through the clouds and just in time for my day off tomorrow!

Hiking Sleeping Giant

Well today was one of those first really nice days of spring around here in the northeast, and since it's April you better take advantage of it before it starts to rain or get cold again (as so aptly put by jms):

Here's the weather in the Northeast in April:

Chilly--->!!!Record Heat!!!--->Suprise snow storm-->Rain--->Holy fuck more rain---->wind--->nice spring day--->A trillion degrees and humid--->Fuck you plants, here's a frost warning---->thunderstorm--->nice spring day---->nice spring day----> OMFG lightning with snow??!?!---->wind--->Godzilla

Basically, we can't know.

So me and some friends decided to take advantage of today's good weather by hiking around Sleeping Giant. Sleeping Giant is an old mountain/hill system that looks like a giant taking a nap, so that's where the name came from. It has a bunch of different levels of trails to take around it and it's much cheaper than the gym, so I believe I've found my calling for the summer. Plus it's great to breathe some nice, forest air and take in the beauty.

Here's a picture of Sleeping Giant, so you can see what I'm saying:

Every Body is Exactly the Same

You ever look through pictures of people and they all end up looking the same?

I was recently looking through a bunch of people attending a local Facebook event and all the girls looked scarily alike. All that was different was the hair color. They all had the exact some bodies, exact same hair style, similar dress and they were all the same height and this is amongst a gathering of about 100 or so people on Facebook.

I think this generation is getting into the Stepford Wives' gig much too young. You don't have to dress the exact same way your friends do in order to fit in, neither do you need the same hair style. Let's be a little different ladies, c'mon now.

It's Official, I'm Looking for a New Job

Well, after a juvenile explosion from my boss and just general boredom of seeing the same 3 people everyday and doing crap projects, I've decided to go on the job hunt!

I've been working now for around 3 years and this is a perfect chance to get hired at a much larger firm since I fall into the "3-5 years experience" category and since I've worked at a tiny firm I really have like 10 years experience or something crazy like that. Well not 10, but you know what I mean. Since I work for a small firm, I see a project from conception to birth and I'm the head designer. So this means many more years of experience than someone who started off at a larger firm and got relegated to "busy work" just starting off.

So let's keep our fingers crossed and send me happy résumé vibes of qualifications goodness.

One company I've been drooling over a while is called Thornton-Tomasetti and they have an ungodly amount of offices located in all the sweet spots of the world. I'll probably see about the New Haven office, but I'm not turning down the New York one just yet. They also have a lovely London office as well, so that will allow for possible work excursions across the pond.

*crosses fingers*

Fortune Cookie?

Here's a little passage that I got in one of my fortune cookies recently:

"Think before sharing with others."

Whoa, fortune cookie is upset. Maybe fortune cookie was stiffed and now doesn't trust people anymore. That's like one of the most screwed up one's I've received.

So yeah, heed fortune cookie's words, don't share with just anyone, screw those people. Be greedy about your sharing, only share to the cool people.
