Bon Voyage Lasagna

So, this is the day before I get hassled at JFK and start my journey to the UK, so I'll be going over my parents house in a couple hours and be greeting with a big, steamy pan of nice lasagna that my Mom and sister are making me.

When my Mom let the cat out of the bag about it (obviously, my Mom cannot keep a secret) I almost started crying, I think it's so cute! It's a little bon voyage party that my parents are giving me and if you know anything about homemade lasagna, it's only used for special occasions. So my Mom doing this for me means a lot.

Mathematical Patterns within Mosque Facades

Here's the article on NPR.org:

"All Things Considered, February 22, 2007 · Historic buildings in the Islamic world are often covered with breathtakingly intricate geometric designs. Both artists and mathematicians have long puzzled over them, wondering how the patterns were created.

Now, a Harvard physicist has some new ideas about the designs and the advanced math behind them."

Sirius & XM, Together?!

Whoa, I just heard about this on NPR today and I found this article on Forbes.com:

"Over a year after talk of a Sirius and XM merger first surfaced, the companies made it official on Monday.

The two U.S. satellite radio providers announced a merger of equals on President's Day. Under the terms of the agreement, XM shareholders will receive 4.6 shares of Sirius stock for each share of XM they own. XM and SIRIUS shareholders will each own approximately 50% of the combined company.

...

According to the statement, users will be able to pick their services on a "more a la carte basis" than currently available. Some of the programming will be commercial free; currently all Sirius stations and some of XM's offerings do not carry advertising."

It's F*cking cold!

So apparently, if these temperatures hold steady, my trip to the UK will be as if I were flying to the Bahamas, relatively speaking of course.

Isn't it supposed to be colder in Scotland?? WTF?

Webcam!

Oh this is sooooo cool, that's to J for giving me this camera gratis.

And Freud says "Hi!"

Crafty Boss

Of course my boss knows that I'm taking like 2 weeks off from work, I tend to want to let him know things like that to be nice, you know. Not just spring that on him, "oh yeah, hey, I'll be gone tomorrow...and for the next 2 weeks after that too."

So of course, he has like 2 buildings in line for me to knock off before I leave and keeps guilt tripping me about it, "well, you're not going to be here for a whole 2 weeks, I need these before you leave...blah blah blah..."

Well, he knows how to put pressure on me, like any good boss. He knows I only produce good work if I'm under a pressure cooker type situation.

But the cool thing is that one of these projects is a total floor addition to an existing building. Essentially, the roof of this building is like WAY higher from the first floor, so the new owner's figured "hey, can we squeeze another floor in between the first floor and the roof??" And they can, in fact. So this is actually pretty cool and worth all the bitching and moaning at the difficult analysis.

I'll still bitch about it though, because that's what I do best, but you know I still love it.

I can't hear anything!

But it was totally worth it, as seeing any good band normally is worth losing a couple decibels worth of hearing for. Thems the rules.

So yeah, last night I saw a friend's band called Nuts in a Blender. They do all types of covers and the like, but it was actually really good and they even did a cover of Head Like a Hole, so of course I was happy. Plus my friend works with the lead singer of the band, so we got to meet him and the band, so that's always cool. Plus I got Mardi Gras beads without showing any boobage! So I call that a good night!

However, the club that they were playing at opened their doors about a half hour later than posted. Now normally, that's not a big problem, but in this case it was probably around 15ºF at night with a stiff wind blowing through and none of us brought our coats. So yeah needless to say after standing out there for around 20 minutes, my shoes finally gave out to the cold and my poor toes were ice. So I ran back to the car with my friend and we warmed up for a while as to get the feeling back in our toesies.

So yeah after the near frost bite episode, everything was great! And I now learned not to wear those shoes in the winter time, unless there's much walking around to be done.

Cabaret Tonight

Well, I'm being an adult tonight and taking in a show with a bunch of friends of mine at the Yale Cabaret. This show in particular is called WASP and is a dark comedy written by none other than Steve Martin himself. So this should be interesting.

"WASP is Steve Martin's dark comedy about a 1950s-style family struggling to achieve stereotypical perfection and harmony... and failing. Beneath the flawless façade of their happy lives, Mom, Dad, Son, and Sis struggle to sustain their hermetic world. The family's efforts lead to complete absurdity in this poignant examination of the underbelly of White Anglo-Saxon Protestant society."

I'm from the city and would never really classify myself as "suburban" so this is a little window into a world I've only seen on TV and heard through friends of mine in the past. I much prefer my screwed up city family, I think it's loads better. We at least have knife fights and stuff like that to settle our differences.

Astronaut Love Triangle

Good Lord, what is wrong with people today?

So this whole thing is about 2 crazy bitches vying for this dude's love:

What a heart throb...*vomits*

Weak, but much better

Well after the fiasco that was Sunday night, I can say that I am much better off and I'm actually at work today. YAY!

I did notice that I'm rather weak though and need to sit down at times. I also have a bit of a cold sweat that likes to form, even when I am sitting down so I'm making sure that I drink plenty of water and perhaps some Gatorade as well. I'll have to pick that up at lunch.

I'm going to try to eat lunch today, but I'm not going to push it. Whatever I can handle at this point will be fine with me.
